Investing in Linked In and some explosive growth numbers

Last week I had another great dinner in San Francisco with Reid Hoffman, founder of Linked In. Reid is one of the most impressive and visionary friends I know.

I am very proud to join its investors list. Reid has secured Series A financing of $4.7 million in November last year. The investment was led by Sequoia Capital, the venture investors behind well-known Internet brands such as Yahoo!, Google and PayPal. A round with business angels that I participated in will be announced within a few weeks.

Here is some information about Linked In’s recent growth, if you are interested:

    Congratulations (potentially) on the (potentially good) investment :) I really like Linked In and am continuing to get friends into it bit by bit.
    As for germany, I have the feeling though that http://www.openbc.com is a lot bigger, at least on the business side. They are currently taking off inside the business community in Germany. It’s fun watching who is communicating with whom. And they do have a pay service, even though I do not know how many people pay.
    Some interesting features are:
    - See who looked at your personal page
    - Searching via different fields and only making some fields available if you pay
    - A great way to see your degrees of separation and via whom
    - Discussion forums on given topics with RSS feeds
    - Ability to open closed (private) discussion forums.

    Great company, great service. Need to adopt a clearer international strategy. If they want to get past the English speaking section of local business communities they better start thinking about translating the service and managing profiles in multiple languages.
    Not to far apart from what Ublog is doing for Typepad :)
